Another Derby Winner for Uncle Mo
Already a multiple stakes-winner, talented colt Mo Tom (3c Uncle Mo x Caroni, by Rubiano) came up short when down the track in the Grade I Kentucky Derby won by another Uncle Mo colt in Nyquist, but turned that form around to win the $500,000 Ohio Derby on Saturday.
Prepared by Tom Amoss, Mo Tom rebounded from his eighth place finish at Churchill Downs, powering clear to win the 1 and 1/8th mile contest by three lengths.
“Physically, I would say he has matured somewhat since the Derby, but there is still a ways to go,” Amoss said.
“It’s been a slow process. I would have thought by now he would look like a full horse, but it just hasn’t happened yet. And that leads me to believe the best is yet to come.”
Mo Tom runs for G M B Racing and has the overall record of four wins and three placings from nine starts with prizemoney topping $590,000.
A $150,000 Keeneland September purchase, Mo Tom is a half-brother to stakes-winners Beautician and Bella Castani from good producer Caroni.
