Aunt Gem Another Impressive Juvenile For Uncle Mo
It was another impressive winner for Uncle Mo on Wednesday at Remington Park when Aunt Gem (2f Uncle Mo x Moravia, by A.P. Indy) romped in a Maiden Special Weight by six lengths.
Trained by Steve Asmussen for Clark Brewster, the filly thrived on the turf when covering 7 ½ furlongs with Stewart Elliott aboard.
She was quickly sent to the rail by Elliott after they broke out of a middle gate and settled into midpack. Elliott moved her up to closer to the front as the leader started to pull away around the turn and the rest of the field started fading behind her. An opportune hole opened for Aunt Gem turning into the stretch and the big filly slide through.
Put into top gear, Aunt Gem swallowed up the leader and galloped by with Elliott giving her a few taps to keep her focused in the final eighth as Aunt Gem made easy work of her second start.
Bred by Dr. Aaron Sones, Aunt Gem is out of the winning A.P. Indy mare Moravia, whose seven winners include the stakes placed Hyuma. Moravia is a full sister to Grade II winner Adriano and half-sister to stakes placed Gold d’Oro, who is also the dam of Grade III winner Strike Power.
Those under Aunt Gem’s second dam also include multiple stakes winner Lipstick City and multiple stakes placed Sweet Opportunity. Her third dam is Grade I winner Golden Treat, who has seven stakes performers under her own name.
Moravia also had an Uncle Mo colt last year.
Aunt Gem is the second impressive winner for Uncle Mo in four days after Shalimar Gardens won at Belmont Park by 11 ¾ lengths on Sunday.
