Back-To-Back Coral Hurdle Wins For Son Of Milan
Saturday saw If The Cap Fits (7g Milan - Derravaragh Sayra, by Sayarshan) return from a break to land back-to-back runnings of the Grade 2 Coral Hurdle at Ascot.
Last seen winning the Grade 1 Stayers Hurdle in April, he was third in the market on his return to just short of two and a half miles. Sean Bowen positioned the bay in mid-division and made headway to chase the leader approaching two out. Ridden to challenge at the final flight, he asserted on the run-in and scored by half a length on the line.
Speaking after the race, winning trainer Harry Fry commented, “I'm delighted for Paul and Clare Rooney, they've had to be patient with their horses. It's only in the last week that If The Cap Fits has really come to himself. He's been for a few away days and even this week, as every day has passed, he's getting sharper and sharper.”
Saturday continued the winner’s impressive consistency, having won eight of his 12 starts and always finishing in the first four. Owned by Paul and Clare Rooney, he was bred by Liam Gilsenan and is by Grange Stud sire Milan.
