Captain Morgs (Milan) Wins the Novice Hurdle At Ascot

Big Future Ahead Of Son Of Milan Over Hurdles

The Nicky Henderson-trained Captain Morgs (4g Milan - Gold Donn, by Beneficial) joined an illustrious honour roll when winning Saturday’s Novices’ Hurdle at Ascot.

Narrowly beaten first time out in a bumper at the beginning of the month, the bay was sent off favourite for the contest previously won by the likes of My Tent Or Yours and Altior. Nico de Boinville rode him to track the leaders, his mount obliging when asked to lead approaching the last and kept on well to deny Annual Invictus (Mahler) by three parts of a length.

Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “I think Captain Morgs is nice, he jumped very well. He's only a baby with a big future, I hope. He's got a long way to go in life, but he's going that way.”

Owned by The Albatross Club, Captain Morgs was bred by Brian and Mrs Bronagh Lawler.
