Breakthrough Stakes Win For Starspangledbanner Filly
Sunday saw Exxtra (3f Starspangledbanner - Rolling Stone, by Raven’s Pass) gain a deserved black-type success in the Listed Prix Kistena over six furlongs at Deauville.
Carlos and Yann Lerner’s consistent filly finished second at Listed level and fourth at Group level as a juvenile, and made a winning return to action at Chantilly in March. Reunited with Ronan Thomas on Sunday, she tracked the leaders for much of the way, before quickening through horses to lead a furlong from home. Running on well, she led by a length and a quarter on the line.
Speaking after the race, Yann Lerner said, “She had won well on her seasonal return, but then had a setback and unfortunately missed the only two group races for sprinting three-year-olds, the Prix Sigy and Texanita. Her last race brought her on for this and with the perfect trip she won in very good style. She will have to face the older horses now, so we’ll take time to make a decision and we might also try her over seven.”
Owned by Madame Anja Wilde, Exxtra was bred by Madame Isabelle Corbani and Jedburgh Stud. The daughter of Starspangledbanner is the best performer to date out of the mare Rolling Stone.
