Bumper Winner Looks One To Watch For Getaway
The Ger Hourigan-trained Fire Away (6g Getaway - Joan’s Girl, by Supreme Leader) followed up on an excellent second at Punchestown to win Sunday’s bumper at Wexford.
Stepping up to two and a half miles, Richard Deegan rode his mount midfield of 14 and began to improve his position from halfway, taking the lead two furlongs from home. Staying on well inside the final furlong, he held off a challenge by hot favourite Braeside to win by three parts of a length. Adding to the strong form of the result was £240,000 purchase Ontheropes back in fourth.
Bred by Brian Moran, Fire Away is out of a winning half-sister to Grade 1 Champion Hurdle second Georges Girl.
