Bumper Winner Continues Super Season For Westerner

The Nicky Richards-trained Wetlands (5g Westerner – Un Jour D Ete, by Dano-Mast) built on a promising debut to take Tuesday’s bumper at Newcastle.

Fourth over course and distance in November, the Trevor Hemmings-owned bay was sent off favourite under Brian Hughes. Racing in midfield, he tracked the leaders from halfway and was pushed along from two furlongs out to lead entering the final furlong. Staying on well, he won by three and a half lengths on the line, as the runner-up finished 17 lengths clear of the field.

Bred by Aidan McGoldrick, Wetlands was bought by Highflyer Bloodstock for €55,000 at the Goffs Landrover Sale. The first foal out of the mare, he continues a terrific season for Castlehyde Stud sire Westerner.
