Calyx Colt Lands Maiden On Second Attempt.
Coverbridge (2c Calyx – Ibiza, by Sepoy) took a step forward on his second start to win Thursday’s seven furlong maiden at Newcastle.
The Phillip Makin-trained juvenile debuted on soft ground over six furlongs ten days earlier and was the subject of some market support ahead of his second start. Racing in touch with the leaders, he was pushed along to lead before the final furlong and kept on well to win by a length under Rowan Scott.
Owned by J Toes and J O’Loan, Coverebridge is the first foal bred by Alne Park Stud out of Ibiza. The second crop son of Calyx has a yearling half-sister by Sioux Nation.
