Catchusifyoucan (Practical Joke) winning at Lone Star Park

Catchusifyoucan First Winner For Practical Joke

Practical Joke registered his first winner from only two runners on Saturday when Catchusifyoucan (2f Practical Joke x Legal Mind, by Bellamy Road) won on debut at Lone Star Park.

The Tom Durant homebred was happy to let the leaders burn themselves out in the 4½-furlong race with two runners duelling out front over eight lengths ahead of the eventual winner. Racing up the rail when the going got serious in the stretch, Catchusifyoucan slid through a hole on the rail and made easy work of taking the lead from Free Like a Girl just before the wire.

Registering a half-length victory, Catchusifyoucan showed every indication that there was plenty more left in the tank in the gallop out.

Trained by Bret Calhoun, Catchusifyoucan is out of the stakes winning Legal Mind, whose other foal to race is a five time winner. Legal Mind is a half-sister to stakes-placed Thewayitusedtobe and to the dam of Group III winner La Trafa. Catchusifyoucan’s granddam is a half-sister to Grade III winner Bold World, who is the dam of Grade III winner Bold Union.

Practical Joke has been in high demand at the 2-year-old sales this year and is only half a length from having two winners from two to race with Tejano Twist second on debut at Keeneland.
