Wind Chimes (Mastercraftsman) winning the G3 Prix de Lieuriey at Deauville

Chimes strikes for Mastercraftsman

Three days after Alpha Centauri (3f Mastercraftsman-Alpha Lupi, by Rahy) stole the show in Deauville’s G1 Prix Jacques Le Marois, another three-year-old daughter of Mastercraftsman starred at the Normandy track on Wednesday.

Andre Fabre saddled Wind Chimes (3f Mastercraftsman-Militante, by Johannesburg), who was beaten a neck in the G1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches in May, to win the G3 Prix de Lieurey by three and a half lengths under Pierre-Charles Boudot in great style.

There looks to be better to come from the Ecurie des Monceaux-bred filly and Boudot commented: “Everything went well, but I wanted to relax her and she fell asleep in the stalls. As a result, we lost three or four lengths and it’s hard to make that back up over these distances.

“I managed to put her back in the race and she did that beautifully. We kicked for home early because I went on as soon as I felt she was ready to go.”

Coolmore’s Mathieu Legars, representing the winning owners, added: “She had run such a good race in the Guineas and had always shown a lot of talent. Things did not go too well last time, but she had too much to do and it was a good effort. We’ll leave it to Mr Fabre as to where she runs next. There are races like the G1 Matron, the G1 Prix du Moulin or the G1 Sun Chariot, so there are plenty of possibilities.”
