Choisir juvenile takes Glorious Goodwood G2
The Richard Hannon-trained Chandlery (2c Choisir-Masai Queen, by Mujadil) starred at Glorious Goodwood on Wednesday when winning the G2 Veuve Clicquot Vintage Stakes.
The Choisir colt justified 5/2 favouritism under Richard Hughes when beating stablemate Rockinante (2c Rock Of Gibraltar-Nantes, by Night Shift) and is as short as 25/1 for next year’s G1 2000 Guineas.
“He’s a good moving, good galloping horse, and that’s why we decided to ride him from the front - nothing else wanted to go on, so Hughesie didn’t mess around and let him bowl on.
“There’s big money in a sales race at York in three weeks, and he [Chandlery] could run in that. He’s a big, strong boy and will be a hard horse to get by.”
Hughes said of Chandlery: “He was a bit ‘toey’ down at the start so I sent him to the front straight away so he could have a good look at what he was doing.
“He’s improved today, but I wouldn’t want to rush into any plans yet because that was his big race for now. He will get a mile this year.”
Chandlery, an £88,000 yearling purchase from Doncaster last year, was bred by Owenstown Stud.
