Churchill Colt Stakes Classic Claims With Easy Group 3 Win
A step up to Group 1 class appears imminent for Vadeni (3c Churchill - Vaderana, by Monsun) after the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained colt ran out an ultra-impressive winner of the Group 3 Prix de Guiche at Chantilly.
A Listed winner and Group 3 placed last season, the bay was sent off favourite for the nine furlong contest and was settled towards the back of the field by Christophe Soumillon. Improving on the turn for home, he was travelling the best of the field with two furlongs left to race and was shaken up to lead approaching the final furlong. Quickening clear under hands and heels, he was eased down to win by two and a half lengths.
Owned and bred by the Aga Khan, Vadeni holds entries in the Group 1 Prix du Jockey Club and Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris.
La Gloire (3f Churchill - Date With Destiny, by George Washington) completed a first crop double for Churchill on the card when taking the ten furlong fillies’ maiden under Mickael Barzalona.
A close second on her sole start last season, Andre Fabre’s charge was sent off favourite on return and chased the leader for much of the way. Driven to challenge a furlong and a half out, she soon led and kept on strongly to score by a length and a half.
Owned by Godolphin, La Gloire was bred by Newsells Park Stud, who sold her as a yearling for 350,000gns.
