City Runner Joins Caravaggio's Winners List

Caravaggio registered his 28th winner on Sunday when City Runner (3c Caravaggio x Cry Me a River, by Danehill Dancer) won at Southwell in England.

Bred by Lynch Bages, City Runner was asked to be patient by jockey Luke Morris as two runners gunned for the lead. Half-way through the race, Morris gave his mount a nudge and City Runner started motoring down the stretch.

The colt didn’t take control until close to the line, but was able to build his margin to three-quarters of a length by the time the race finished. It was his first victory but the 3-year-old has only been off the board once in his five career starts.

Trained by Brian Meehan for Manton Thoroughbreds, City Runner is out of the Danehill Dancer mare Cry Me a River. Fourth in a stakes during her racing career, Cry Me a River is the dam of two winners from two to race. She is also a half-sister to multiple stakes winner Skiddaw Peak and to the dams of No Nay Never’s Group I-placed The Irish Rover and two other stakes placers.

This is a strong family of producers with mares on his page producing the likes of Grade I winners Landseer and Mikki Rocket and Irish champion I Can Fly.

Caravaggio was a leading freshman sire in 2021 with his four graded stakes performers and eight stakes performers the best of any Northern Hemisphere first crop stallion.
