Clarence C 15th Winner for Caravaggio
Clarence C (2c Caravaggio x Canterbury Lace, by Danehill) became winner number 15 for Caravaggio on Monday with a maiden victory at Moulins in France.
Clarence C was eager to cover the seven furlongs on turf and gave his jockey a hand full when keen to take over the lead. He was finally convinced to race in second and settled to save his energy for the final rush.
That came with two furlongs left to go when he quickly challenged for the lead – and then took it over to put in a commanding performance.
Raced by D Curran and trained by Nick Littmoden, Clarence C is the eighth winner for Canterbury Lace.
The Barronstown Stud-bred is a half-brother to Footstepsinthesand’s Group I winner Chachamaidee, who is also the dam of Group III winner Klassique. The colt is also a half-brother to Group III winners Chief Whip and J Wonder, with J Wonder also the dam of a stakes placed runner. Two other half-sisters are the dams of Group I-placed Celestial Path and stakes-placed Noivado.
Under Clarence C’s second dam Legend Maker is Group I 1000 Guineas winner Virginia Waters among eight stakes performers listed under Legend Maker’s name.
Caravaggio leads all North American based freshmen by number of winners, stakes winners (3), stakes horses (5), and graded stakes horses (3) in 2021.
