Consignors Reap Rewards With Starspangledbanner At Book 1

A son of Starspangledbanner provided an impressive return on his foal price when selling for 550,000gns at the Tattersalls Book 1 Yearling Sale.

Name Captain Star, the French-bred colt was bought by BBA Ireland as a foal for €170,000 and was resold by Yeomandstown Stud to Badgers Bloodstock on Tuesday.

Breeders also reaped the rewards at Park Paddocks, where New England Stud sold a Starspangledbanner colt out of Mrs Gallagher for to Richard Knight. The bay was bred from a covering fee of €22,500, as was Fittocks Stud’s Filly out of Permission, which sold to MV Magnier for 240,000gns.

Fittocks Stud sold a Starspangledbanner colt for 72,000gns at the 2021 foal sales and on Tuesday was resold by Ballyvolane Stud to the Hong Kong Jockey Club for 220,000gns. Starspangledbanner is responsible for one of the top four-year-olds in Hong Kong at the moment, with California Spangled (Starspangledbanner) having amassed over €2.5million in seven wins and four placings.

Starspangledbanner was responsible for six lots sold for €100,000 or more at Book 1, with his progeny selling for an average of 242,143gns.
