Dawn Patrol (Galileo) Wins The Gr.3 Loughbrown Stakes at the Curragh

Coolmore Sires Complete 1-2 In Loughbrown Stakes

The Aidan O’Brien-trained Dawn Patrol (3c Galileo - Gwynn, by Darshaan) made a successful step up in trip to take Sunday’s Group 3 Loughbrown Stakes at the Curragh.

Third in the Irish Derby earlier this year, the son of Galileo filled the same position in a Listed contest over a mile and six furlongs last month. Stepping up to two miles on Sunday, he raced towards the back of the field under Seamie Heffernan and made good headway from three furlongs out. Ridden to lead inside the final furlong, the bay stayed on well to win by three parts of a length, as Barrington Court (Mastercraftsman) stayed on for second.

Speaking after the race, Seamie Heffernan said, “Dawn Patrol arrived there on the bridle. Aidan said to ride him with loads of confidence and take all the chances down the inside. He finished out well.”

Bred by Lynch Bages, Dawn Patrol is a full-brother to impressive Listed winner Kissed and is closely related to Epsom Derby victor Pour Moi. He completed a weekend Group double for champion sire Galileo, following High Definition's impressive success in the Group 2 Bereford Stakes.
