Dancing Duchess Wins Alywow Stakes

Dancing Duchess (3f Munnings x Duchess Dancer, by Congrats) added a stakes victory to her record for the second year running on Saturday with a victory in the Alywow Stakes at Woodbine.

Third in the Star Shoot Stakes to start her season two races ago, the Tracy Farm representative cleared the gate quickly in the 6 ½ furlong turf race and briefly took the lead. Another runner was able to wrangle it from her down the backstretch and relegate her to a close second but with half the race left to run, she again took over.

In the stretch, jockey Sahin Civaci urged her to show her best and that’s exactly what she did, winning by 1 ½ lengths for a third career victory.

Trained by Mark Casse, the Munnings daughter has finished on the board in six of her nine starts with five of those coming at the stakes level.

The $400,000 Keeneland September Yearling purchase from Cara Bloodstock was bred by Mitchel Kursner in Ontario out of the winning Duchess Dancer. That mare’s four winners also include the Queen’s Plat winner Safe Conduct.

Duchess Dancer is a half sister to Canadian Horse of the Year Fatal Bullet and stakes winner Millennia in addition to the dam of stakes winner Freedom Speaks with Canadian Horse of the Year Pink Lloyd also on the page.

This is the seventh stakes winner of the year for Munnings, who has seen 16 of his runners place in blacktype races in 2024.
