Dual Classic Winner Capri to stand at Grange Stud for 2020
Capri opened his account in a two-year-old maiden at the Galway Festival where he defeated subsequent Melbourne Cup winner Rekindling. The following week at Tipperary he made all to land a 7½-furlong Listed contest with the minimum of fuss before coming from off the pace to win the Group 2 Beresford Stakes at the Curragh.
As a three-year-old, Capri won the Group 1 Irish Derby from World Champion Cracksman, Epsom Derby winner Wings of Eagles and 2019 ‘Arc’ winner Waldgeist. After a mid-summer break, he came back in the same form to outbattle Crystal Ocean and Stradivarius to win the Group 1 St Leger Stakes at Doncaster.
As a four-year-old he returned to win the Group 3 Alleged Stakes over a mile and a quarter at Naas and ran a fine race in the ‘Arc’ finishing only 3¼ lengths behind Enable in fifth ahead of Group 1 winners Kew Gardens, Study Of Man and Magical.
Capri is out of Dialafara, bred and raced by HH The Aga Khan. His second dam, the Group 1 filly Diamilina is a daughter of Linamix, sire of hugely successful French National Hunt stallion Martaline.
“Capri is a fine big horse with a good head and a great walk”, said Albert Sherwood. “He was a very high class two-year-old and defeated all the best middle-distance colts of his generation as a three-year-old before again showing high class form at four. We couldn’t be more delighted that he’s coming to Grange.”
