€100,000 Bumper victory for Mahler

Unbeaten Red Jack (4g Mahler-Hollygrove Bonnie, by Lord Americo) confirmed himself a high-class prospect when winning the hotly-contested €100,000 Tattersalls Ireland George Mernagh Memorial Sales Bumper at Fairyhouse on Sunday. The Mahler four-year-old, bred by J Conroy, scored at Naas first out in January with Champion Bumper runner-up Debuchet nearly 3 lengths behind. Purchased privately by JP McManus after that impressive debut win, the short-priced favourite was eased down to win this valuable prize for his new connections by a length and three-quarters. “He looks a good horse and is ground versatile,” said trainer Noel Meade. “That will probably be it for this season and he’ll jump hurdles next year.”
