Exciting Getaway Mare Flies Clear On Debut
Jumping Jet (5m Getaway - Little Mili, by Milan) could not have been more impressive on Tuesday, as the newcomer ran out a wide margin winner of the mares’ bumper at Gowran Park.
The Barry Fitzgerald-trained mare faced 15 rivals in the two mile and one furlong contest, the majority of them boasting greater experience than the eventual winner. Chasing the leaders in the early stages, she improved to lead with over five furlongs left to race and went clear inside the final furlong. Keeping on well to win by all of 29 lengths, she provided young jockey Kieran Callaghan with his first winner.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “I always thought a lot of her at home and is a nice filly going forward. She would be entitled to step up to a Listed race now if she is not sold.”
Owned by Mrs Rose Byrne, Jumping Jet is the first runner bred by D Mitchell out of the unraced Milan mare Little Mili.
