Eyeing Clover Newest Stakes Winner for Lookin At Lucky
Lookin At Lucky registered his 74th worldwide stakes winner on Saturday when Eyeing Clover (3c Lookin At Lucky x Floral Park, by Forest Wildcat) won the Hot Springs Stakes.
Making his first start after finishing fourth in the Grade III Gotham Stakes, Eyeing Clover raced a few lengths behind the pacesetter early in the one-mile dirt race when rank. Running on the rail down the backstretch, Eyeing Clover slid closer to the front and stuck his head in front as they entered the turn.
He had to deal with pressure from there and didn’t shake free until midway through the stretch. At that point, his challenger backed off and Eyeing Clover easily held off a late closer to win by a length with the rest of the field 7 ½ lengths behind.
Owned by Ten Strike Racing, it was the third win in four starts for the Brad Cox trained Eyeing Clover, who debuted on New Year’s Eve.
Eyeing Clover was bred by Mike Abraham out of three-time winner Floral Park. That mare also produced Grade III winner and Grade II-placed Heavenhasmynikki, multiple stakes winner and Grade III-placed Dougs Buddy, and multiple stakes winner Floral Sky. Floral Park herself is a half-sister to Turkish champion Tapit Girl and out of a daughter of Grade I winner Chelsey Flower.
A multiple champion racehorse, Lookin At Lucky has found major success as a sire with 74 stakes winners, 48 graded stakes winners, and 142 stakes performers led by 18 Grade I winners and 42 Grade I horses.
