Fastnet Colt Tops on MM Day Two

Fastnet Rock hit his straps at the 2012 Magic Millions Sale on Thursday providing the star of the show when his colt from Rose of Cimmaron fetched $960,000 to top the session for Ian Smith’s Edinburgh Park. The first foal from metropolitan winner Rose of Cimmaron, the star colt is a three-quarter brother in blood to this season’s stakes-winner Amah Rock, who is also by Fastnet Rock, and is from a very current and successful family, his dam being a full sister to Group III winner Mica’s Pride, the dam of Group II winner Varenna Miss and stakes-winner Silently. After a few tense minutes in the ring, the colt was knocked down to Demi O’Byrne and James Bester acting on behalf of Coolmore, who purchased unbeaten Group I winning Fastnet Rock filly Atlantic Jewel from this sale in 2010 for $320,000. Coolmore's Tom Magnier said he was delighted to be able to secure the stunning colt. "He is on fire at the moment," Magnier said of Fastnet Rock. "James (Bester) and Demi (O'Byrne) absolutely loved the horse and they were raving about him all week. "We are really trying to get the good Fastnet Rock colts. He has plenty of quality and we really wanted to buy him, although we knew there were plenty of people interested in him and we would have to do a bit of fighting to get him.” Fastnet Rock fillies from Quack (Rosari Farm) and Satin Robes (Widden Stud) were also ultra popular selling for $460,000 and $450,000 respectively, Fastnet Rock’s average soaring to $255,357 with 14 yearlings sold.
