Fastnet Rock Colt Flies To Stakes Success At Longchamp
Second on debut in November, the bay ran out a smart winner on return in March and stepped up to a mile and a half at the weekend. He raced at the back of the field under Stephane Pasquier and was last as they approached the turn for home. Ridden upon entering the straight, the colt quickened strongly to lead from two furlongs out and ran on well to win by a length and a half, as the second drew six lengths clear of the third.
Speaking after the race, Clement commented, “I am so happy for all the partners in this horse and happy to see him win so nicely. Stephane Pasquier told us that the horse gave him a very good feel. He is a very big horse and still immature, so we still have to work on him.”
On future plans, he said, “We will sit down with the owners and decide about his next race, but I really wish the Prix du Jockey Club was still run over a mile and a half.”
Fenelon was bred by Haras du Mezeray and Skymarc Farm, who now own the colt with Gerard Augustin-Normand. Out of Grade 3 winner Aigue Marine (Galileo), the son of Fastnet Rock is bred on the same cross as Group 1 winners Intricately, Qualify, Rivet and Zhukova.
