First Southern Hemisphere Winner for Mastercraftsman

Mastercraftsman posted his first Southern Hemisphere bred winner in New Zealand on Thursday when two year-old colt Jackofall (2c Mastercraftsman x Wizard Princess, by Rory's Jester) scored over another Mastercraftsman colt in Silversmith (2c Mastercraftsman x Alberton Star, by Stylish Century) at Tauherenikau to give their young sire the quinella.

The Lisa Latta trained colt improved on his debut second last month and is clearly on the up.

“He still gets a bit lost and he was pricking his ears when he got to the front,” Latta said. “He is a neat horse to train, with a fantastic temperament and I think he will keep improving.

“We will take him home and see what to do next. He could run in the Wellesley, but the Karaka Million is the goal for him.”

Jackofall was a $34,000 NZB Select Yearling Sale purchase from the draft of Blandford Lodge and is the first winner for Wizard Princess, a half-sister by Rory’s Jester to Group I AJC Flight Stakes winner Cheeky Choice.

Mastercraftsman has had a great run in the Northern Hemisphere this year with 24 first crop winners led by Group III winner Amazing Maria, stakes-winner Pablosky and four other stakes performers.

A multiple Group I winning son of Danehill Dancer, Mastercraftsman is back in New Zealand again this spring for Windsor Park Stud.
