First Yearlings By Caravaggio Prove Popular At Tattersalls Book 1

The first yearlings by top-class sprinter Caravaggio were well-received at the Tattersalls Book 1 Yearling Sale, where seven of his progeny sold for six-figure sums.

Lot 185 held strong pedigree appeal as a half-brother to talented two-year-old Harbour Watch and proved to impress as a physical, too, bringing 180,000gns from Charlie Gordon Watson. Bred by Riversfield Stud, the grey colt was a successful pinhook for Camas Park Stud.

Barronstown Stud offered another well-related son of Caravaggio in Lot 222, a half-brother to multiple Stakes winner Making Light. Arthur Hoyeau went to 150,000gns for the colt out of Instant Sparkle, herself a full-sister to dual Group winner and top-class broodmare Irresistible Jewel.

Clare Castle Stud’s grey filly (Lot 298) was another excellent example of the quality of Caravaggio’s first crop. The grey is closely related to Group 3 Albany Stakes third Take Me With You (Scat Daddy) and was knocked down to BBA Ireland for 130,000gns.

Michael Fitzpatrick bought a first crop Caravaggio foal out of Chicago Girl for €48,000 last winter and was rewarded with a substantial profit at Tattersalls. Re-offered through his Kilminfoyle House Stud, the colt brought 120,000gns from MV Magnier.
