Five in a Row for Callanish
Talented performer Callanish (4h Fastnet Rock x Dancing Doll, by Dance Floor) looks to have overcome his earlier bad barrier behaviour and looked very professional in posting his fifth consecutive win at Sandown on Wednesday. The Mick Price trained Callanish has been a model of consistency this preparation and delivered the goods again for punters in the Ratings 82 event over 1600 metres. He travelled strongly for regular rider Dale Smith, but let down with a good finish to lug 59 kg to victory in scoring by more than a length. “He was a on a dead track, stepping up to the mile and carrying 59 kg, so it was a good effort,” said Mick Price. “He’s a nice horse. He’s probably going to go to an 86 or 87 rating and that puts him in open handicaps now. He’ll train on, so we’ll look at a bit of Black Type maybe.” A $320,000 purchase from the Curraghmore Stud draft at the 2010 NZB Premier Yearling Sale for his trainer, Callanish has won each of his five starts to date earning more than $80,000 in prizemoney. He is a half-brother to Group III winner Dancing Daggers and is from Dancing Doll, who comes from the family of Group I winners Blevic, Universal Prince and Universal Queen.
