Footstepsinthesand Colt Completes Hat-Trick

Governor Of Punjab (2c Footstepsinthesand - Simla Bibi, by Indian Ridge) completed a hat-trick of wins when producing a late challenge in Thursday’s competitive two-year-old contest at Glorious Goodwood.

The Mark Johnston-trained colt suffered a bad start to the race, becoming short of room and being hampered early in the seven furlong test. Recovering to race in midfield, he was ridden to make headway over a furlong out and switched left under Ryan Moore to lead well inside the final furlong. Running on strongly, he won by a length, as Sword Beach (Ivawood) finished well to take second.

Speaking after the race, Mark Johnston commented, “Ryan was saying Governor Of Punjab is a lovely horse who's doing everything right but that we shouldn't lose sight that because of his size there should be more to come from him next year.”

Owned by Rob Ferguson, Governor Of Punjab was bred by Mrs Joan Murphy and is a half-brother to two Stakes horses.
