Zozimus (Footstepsinthesand) Wins His Maiden At Dundalk

Footstepsinthesand Colt Gets Off The Mark In Style

The Donnacha O’Brien-trained Zozimus (2c Footstepsinthesand - Comment, by Sadler’s Wells) followed up on a string of admirable efforts to win Wednesday’s mile maiden at Dundalk.

Placed on four previous occasions, including over course and distance, the Justin Carthy-owned colt was sent off favourite for the 14-runner contest. The bay raced close to the pace under Gavin Ryan and was pushed along to press the leader from two furlongs out, quickening to lead approaching the final furlong. Soon clear, he scored by four lengths from Shackleton Hero (The Gurkha).

Speaking after the race, the winning jockey said, “I was delighted with him today. Now that he's got his head in front he might go on from here.”

The son of Footstepsinthesand was bred by Grange Stud out of an unraced full-sister to Beat Hollow (Sadler’s Wells).
