Fupeg Mare Engaginglee Wins Grade Three

Claiming a first Black Type victory in the $100,000 Grade III Locust Grove Stakes at Churchill Downs on Saturday was Engaginglee (5m Fusaichi Pegasus x Lee Gage, by Fit to Fight). Grade I placed earlier this year, the Dale Romans trained mare scored a well-deserved head victory in the 1 and 1/16th mile contest. A homebred for Paul Lichtefeld & Jack Stewart, Engaginglee has won four races and placed 10 times from 23 starts earning over $300,000 in prizemoney. “She was coming into the race in real good shape, said Dale Romans. “I thought that she was on the verge of a break through race. I have no explanation for the performance at Ellis (last start) , but it’s good to make her a graded stakes winner now. She and I have one thing in common and that’s that we both love Churchill Downs.”

Engaginglee is the 76th stakes-winner for Fusaichi Pegasus and is from Lee Gage, who comes from the family of Grade III winner Honest Ensign.
