Future Looks Bright For Arizona’s Latest Maiden Winner
The Ger Lyons-trained Glyndwr (2c Arizona – Tonkolili, by Kodiac) built on previous promise to land Friday’s seven furlong maiden at Dundalk.
A promising fifth on debut at Naas, the first crop son of Arizona had no luck in running when sent off favourite at Leopardstown next time out, and was reunited with Colin Keane on his third start. Racing prominently throughout, he was asked to quicken two furlongs from home and was ridden to lead inside the final furlong. He kept on well to deny a late challenger by a neck, with the front pair finishing four and a half lengths clear of the third.
“We're delighted with that,” assistant trainer Shane Lyons commented. “He's a work in progress and still very green. Colin said that he'd be a lovely horse for next year over a mile or even a mile and a quarter.”
Owned by Philip Richards and bred by John O’Connor, Glyndwr becomes Arizona’s second winner trained by Ger Lyons, following William F Browne’s Naas maiden win.
A week earlier, Right And True become a first Stakes winner for freshman sire Arizona and may now head to the Breeders’ Cup.
