G2 and G3 2yo Curragh winners for Galileo

The mighty Galileo dominated action at the Curragh on Sunday courtesy of two juveniles who look live Classic contenders for 2013. Battle Of Marengo (2c Galileo- Anna Karenina, by Green Desert) starred in the feature G2 Beresford Stakes with a hugely impressive victory, capturing the mile contest by three and a half lengths. Trainer Aidan O’Brien is now considering aiming the Galileo colt, an easy Lepardstown Listed winner on his previous run, at Doncaster’s G1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster in October. “You'd have to be delighted with that especially considering Joseph (O’Brien) said he hated the ground,” said the winning trainer. “He'd be a possible for the race in Doncaster although he's done plenty this year and he doesn't need to run again. He’s a very straightforward horse and he’s done nothing wrong.” Battle Of Marengo is 14/1 joint second-favourite for next year’s Derby with bookmaker Victor Chandler with the market headed by another Galileo colt, Mars (2c Galileo-Massarra, by Danehill). Also starring at the Curragh on Sunday was Magical Dream (2f Galileo-Red Evie, Intikhab), who was also representing Joseph and Aidan O’Brien when landing the G3 C L Weld Park Stakes by two lengths. “She is a grand filly who is improving and ran well the last day in the G1 Moyglare Stud Stakes. She is a filly that will stay further,” said Aidan O’Brien. “She travelled well and quickened up well today. She is in the G1 Prix Marcel Boussac, so we will see about that. She’s a hardy lady.”
