Savethelastdance (Galileo) Wins The Cheshire Oaks at Chester

Galileo Filly Heads Epsom Market For Ballydoyle

Savethelastdance (3f Galileo - Daddys Lil Darling, by Scat Daddy) heads the Epsom Oaks betting after storming clear to a wide margin success in the Listed Cheshire Oaks.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained filly won a competitive Leopardstown maiden on her seasonal return, with the form boosted by the second and third subsequently winning impressively. It saw her sent off favourite at Chester, where Ryan Moore settled her at the back of the field and began to make headway from over three furlongs out. Pushed along to lead two furlongs from home, she was soon clear and impressed all the way to the line, recording a winning margin of 22 lengths. There’s The Door (Starspangledbanner) finished best of the remainder.

“I was very impressed,” Ryan Moore said after the race. “You can only be impressed by what she’s done there. She gave me a very good feel – she’s probably given me as good a feel in this race as the ones I’ve ridden before.” Wednesday saw Moore become the joint winning-most jockey of the race, with his previous mounts including subsequent Group 1 winners Magic Wand (Galileo) and Diamondsandrubies (Fastnet Rock).

Aidan O’Brien later added, “It’s unusual to win that far, but she’s very well bred and I think it was soft enough for her because she’s a good-moving filly.”

Owned by Coolmore partners with Westerberg, the daughter of Galileo is the first foal out of the Grade 1 winning Scat Daddy mare Daddys Lil Darling.
