Galileo Filly Wins Breeders' Cup Turf
Golden Horn might have won the Epsom Derby and Arc de Triomphe this year, but he had to settle for second in the Grade I Breeders' Cup Turf at Keeneland on Saturday when defeated by mighty filly Found (3f Galileo x Red Evie, by Intikhab).
The Aidan O’Brien trained filly was a Grade I winner at two and has been competitive in many of the big races this year, but rose to a new level when overpowering Golden Horn in the final stages to win the mile and a half turf feature by half a length with Ryan Moore in the saddle.
"She is a very tough filly,” Ryan Moore said.
“She beat a champion and that is special too.”
Found becomes the first 3-year-old filly to win the Breeders' Cup Turf and is the third winner of the Turf for her sire Galileo since 2006.
"I'm absolutely delighted,” said Aidan O’Brien.
“She's a very special mare. To run in two Champion Stakes [Irish and English], an Arc and then to come and win the Breeders' Cup Turf is quite remarkable. She's very special."
Owned by Michael Tabor, Mrs John Magnier and Derrick Smith, Found has the overall record of four wins and six placings from 11 starts.
Found is the best of three stakes-winners from dual Group I winner Red Evie.
