Galileo Sires Pair Of Millionaires At Tattersalls
Thursday saw Galileo top the final session of the Tattersalls Book 1 Sale, finishing the sale with two millionaire sales to his name.
15 lots by the super sire were offered over the course of three days, their total of 9.7million guineas bringing an average price of 646,667 guineas. At a price of 2.1million, top honours went to the full-sister to Lancaster House (Galileo) offered by Barronstown Stud. The daughter of Grade 1 performer Quiet Oasis topped the final day of trade when knocked down to MV Magnier and George Von Opel’s Westerberg operation.
Speaking after the sale, Magnier commented, “She's a lovely filly and Aidan [O'Brien] has always felt that Lancaster House is a very good horse.” Jamie McCalmont, representing Von Opel, added, “We raced the mare with Paul Reddam before she was sold to the Nagles. This filly was the one horse we really wanted in the sale and it isn't a shock that she made so much money.”
It was the second beautifully-bred daughter of Galileo that Westerberg bought during the week, having secured a Galileo half-sister to top two-year-old Ivawood for 850,000gns. Offered by breeder Barronstown Stud, she is out of a half-sister to multiple Stakes winner Berkshire, while her grandam Kinnaird won the Group 1 Prix de l’Opera.
Godolphin, meanwhile, were the successful buyers of Wednesday’s Galileo colt from New England Stud, for whom they stretched to 1.1million guineas. The March-born chestnut is a full-brother to two Stakes horses, most notably Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf victor Line Of Duty (Galileo), bred out of 1,000 Guineas runner-up Jacqueline Quest (Rock Of Gibraltar).
Amanda Skiffington was responsible for the winning bid of 900,000gns which secured Glenvale Stud’s Galileo half-sister to Group 1 winner Garswood. Their dam, Penchant, is proven with Galileo, having produced Group 2 performer Zagitova (Galileo).
David Redvers was another understandably keen to buy a Galileo blue blood and achieved this with a bid of 800,000gns for the half-sister to Irish Derby hero Latrobe (Camelot). Offered by Manister House Stud on behalf of breeders Grange Stud, the bay filly also counts Group 3 winner Diamond Fields (Fastnet Rock) and Epsom Oaks runner-up Pink Dogwood (Camelot) among her siblings.
