Game Son Of Westerner Gains Deserved Hurdle Win

A gutsy performance saw The Little Yank (6g Westerner - Long Walk Home, by Presenting) get off the mark over hurdles in the Rated Novice Hurdle at Ballinrobe.

A dual bumper winner, John Ryan’s charge was placed on his last three starts and dropped back to two miles and two furlongs on Tuesday. Chasing the leaders under Bryan Cooper, he made smooth headway to track the favourite Persia approaching two out and led at the final flight. Digging deep in the straight, the bay prevailed by half a length on the line, with the pair drawing 16 lengths clear of the field.

Bred by Patrick and Morgan Cahalan, The Little Yank earned black-type over hurdles last season.
