German Derby Victory Continues Stellar Season For Gleneagles
Palladium (3c Gleneagles – Path Wind, by Anabaa) continued a fantastic season for Gleneagles when taking the 155th running of the Group 1 Deutsches Derby at Hamburg on Sunday.
The Henk Grewe-trained colt was given an enterprising ride by young jockey Thore Hammer Hansen, who chased the leaders before taking a brave path to the stands-side in the straight. His mount ran on strongly when asked, getting up close home to beat Group 2 Derby Italiano victor Borna (Saxon Warrior) by a neck, while Group 3 Derby Trial winner Augustus had to settle for third.
Palladium becomes the second Stakes winner bred by Gestut Fahrhof out of Path Wind, whose son Panjari (Camelot) landed two Listed contests. The Liberty Racing-owned colt becomes a third individual Group 1 winner by Gleneagles, also responsible for impressive Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes winner Calandagan and Epsom Derby runner-up Ambiente Friendly last month.
