Getaway Mare Remains Unbeaten With Listed Win

The Nicky Henderson-trained Vegas Blue (4m Getaway - Bella Venezia, by Milan) made it two from two when taking Sunday’s Listed Mares’ Bumper at Huntingdon.

A three length winner on debut in May, she carried the recognizable silks of Crimbourne Bloodstock, who last week sold Grade 1 winner Verdana Blue (Getaway) for 370,000gns at Tattersalls. Nico de Boinville rode her to track the leaders, asserting from over two furlongs out and went clear approaching the final furlong. Staying on well, she won by four lengths on the line.

On future plans, Henderson later said, “We were going to send Vegas Blue hurdling, but we saw this and we thought she would have a good chance of winning it. She'll probably go hurdling after that.”

By Grange Stud sire Getaway, Vegas Blue was bred by Frank Motherway and is a full-sister to maiden hurdle winner Rathhill (Getaway). Sunday provided a nice update for the pair’s yearling half-brother by Walk In The Park, who sold for €65,000 at Tattersalls Ireland last year.
