Ginobili Kicks Off 2023 With Fifth Season Win

Graded stakes winner Ginobili (6g Munnings x Find the Humor, by Sharp Humor) made easy work of the Listed Fifth Season Stakes at Oakawn on Saturday with a four-length romp in the race.

Shadowing Dreamer’s Disease throughout the early stages of the one-mile dirt race, he poured the pressure on that horse down the backstretch as Ricardo Santana Jr. let him do all the work under his own power. Midway through the far turn, Ginobili took command and was the easiest ride of the day for his jockey as he continued to draw away down the stretch.

“The only thing I can say: Anybody could have won on that horse today, how he was training in the morning. He was training impressively, and I was excited to see him come back from a layoff. First race of the year. I can't wait for what's next for that horse,” Santana Jr. said

Trained by Peter Miller for Slam Dunk Racing, Jerry McClanahan, and Michael Nentwig, Ginobili has now earned $561,050 with a Grade II win and a second in the Grade I Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile among the races on his resume.

Bred by Hinkle Farms, Ginobili is a half-brother to the stakes-placed Silly Factor and out of the Grade III placed Find the Humor. Find the Humor is a full sister to the Grade II winning Quick Wit and a half-sister to the dam of the stakes placed Veeson.

Ginonbili is one of three stakes performers for Munnings in 2023, the second most of any North American sire. Overall, Munnings has 63 stakes winners and 107 stakes performers, led by five Grade I winners.
