Giorgio Vasari (Air Force Blue) Wins At Limerick

Giorgio Vasari Third Winner For Air Force Blue

Giorgio Vasari (2c Air Force Blue x Dream The Blues, by Oasis Dream) became the third winner for European Champion 2-Year-Old Air Force Blue on Friday at Limerick in Ireland.

Racing over 6½ furlongs on turf for the Coolmore partners and trainer Aidan O’Brien, the colt broke near the top of the field and immediately settled just outside the leader for most of the run. As they entered the final three furlongs, Giorgio Vasari was let out a notch raced alongside the leader before jockey Wayne Lordan encouraged him to move on in the closing stages.

In the final furlong, Giorgio Vasari left that rival in the dust but had to dig deep as Alex D came up to challenge him for the victory. Giorgio Vasari wasn’t willing to let the other colt by, always keeping his head in front to win by a nose and become the fourth winner out of his dam Dream The Blues.

Bred by Fethard Bloodstock, Giorgio Vasari is a half-brother to Group I-winning Coolmore Stud stallion Sioux Nation and a grandson of Group III winner and Group I-placed Catch The Blues. That mare is also the granddam of Group III winner My Catch and Listed winner and Group I-placed Vladimir.

Already the sire of a stakes-placed runner in Chief Little Hawk, Air Force Blue is tied at the top of the Leading First-Crop Sire list by both winners and stakes horses.
