Aeronautic (Gleneagles) Impresses At Leopardstown

Gleneagles Colt Follows Up With Impressive Performance

Aeronautic (3c Gleneagles – Meri Shika, by Spirit One) proved a class above his rivals when running out a clear winner of Thursday’s Rated Race at Leopardstown.

Trained by Joseph O’Brien for owner/breeder Newtown Anner Stud, the three-year-old won his second start earlier this month and stepped up to a mile and five furlongs on Thursday evening. Racing in touch with the leaders, he improved with over two furlongs to race and was ridden to lead a furlong later. Running on strongly, he soon boasted a clear advantage and was eased down close home to win by four and a quarter lengths under Declan McDonogh.

“It was an impressive performance today,” said the winning trainer. “He quickened up well and he's a progressive horse. It's nice to have a nice horse for the Newtown Anner team. I suppose he's heading for stakes race now, or at least a good handicap.”
