Gleneagles Filly Makes Successful Debut At Newmarket
Shemozzle (2f Gleneagles - Sibilance, by Bated Breath) produced a game performance to make a winning debut in the fillies’ novice stakes at Newmarket on Wednesday.
The Ralph Beckett-trained newcomer was sent off favourite for the seven furlong contest and raced prominently throughout under Hector Crouch. Pushed along from three furlongs out, she quickened when ridden from a furlong out and ran on well to lead close home. The winning margin was three parts of a length, while the long-time leader So Logical (Footstepsinthesand) finished two lengths and three quarters clear of the third.
“It wasn't a big surprise,” Beckett later revealed. “Shemozzle has always been a professional sort of filly like her mum. She'll have a nice holiday now, we'll bring her back in the spring and work our way through the grades I hope.”
The promising daughter of Gleneagles was bred by Aylesfield Farms Stud and carries the colours of Mrs Nigel Elwes.
