Melo Melo (Gleneagles) Wins The Listed Prix Gold River at Longchamp

Gleneagles Filly Strides Clear To Stakes Success

The progressive Melo Melo (4f Gleneagles - You Look So Good, by Excellent Art) ran out an impressive winner of the Listed Prix Gold River at Longchamp on Sunday.

Twice a winner and Listed-placed last season, the Francis-Henri Graffard-trained filly gained further black-type last time out stepped up to a mile and six furlongs on Sunday. Settled towards the back of the field by Maxime Guyon, she quickened well when asked in the straight and led approaching the final furlong. Running on strongly, she scored by three and a half lengths from previous Group 3 winner Lastotchka.

“She’d been knocking at the door at this level,” the winning trainer said after the race. “The key with her is to have a clear run, because she has a long acceleration rather than a turn of foot, and if something interrupts that flow it is difficult for her to kick on again. I will see what the programme has to offer, but there are various options open to her.”

Melo Melo is owned by Ecurie Ama.zing Team and was bought by BBA Ireland as a foal for 110,000gns. The daughter of Gleneagles was bred by the Pocock Family out of You Look So Good, who has a two-year-old filly by Ten Sovereigns and a yearling colt by Wootton Bassett.
