Gleneagles Filly Strikes Late For Group 3 Glory
Jumbly (3f Gleneagles - Thistle Bird, by Selkirk) emulated her dam Thistle Bird when winning the Group 3 Valiant Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.
Hollie Doyle employed a change of tactics for the mile contest and held the daughter of Gleneagles up at the back of the field. Making headway from two furlongs out, Harry and Roger Charlton’s charge was shaken up approaching the final furlong and ran on to lead on the line. Oscula was denied by a nose one the line, while long-time leader Novemba (Gleneagles) took third.
Sunday marked a second Stakes success for Jumbly, having impressed in a Listed contest last season. Emily Rothschild’s homebred finished a close second in a Group 3 on her three-year-old return and was beaten just over two lengths in the Group 1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches.
The daughter of Gleneagles is the best performer out of Thistle Bird, who herself won the 2012 Valiant Stakes.
