Gleneagles Newcomer Impresses At Newbury
Araminta (3f Gleneagles - Mince, by Medicean) shaped like a smart prospect on Friday when drawing clear to win the fillies’ maiden at Newbury.
Henry Candy’s newcomer was slowly away in the seven furlong race and initially raced towards the back of the field under Dane O’Neill. Pushed along to make headway two furlongs from home, she improved into second a furlong later and led inside the final furlong. Pushed clear, she won by three and a half lengths, with another two and a quarter lengths back to the third horse.
Speaking after the race, Araminta’s co-owner Alex Frost said, “She's by Gleneagles and has a very good action. Her mum was a proper Group filly so the ambition would be some black type and maybe she'll get a mile.”
Araminta is owned by Frost in partnership with St Albans Bloodstock and Acloque. The daughter of Gleneagles was bought by breeder Blue Diamond Stud in utero, when they gave 130,000gns for her dam Mince at Tattersalls December Sale.
