Group 2 Winner Continues Fantastic Season For Gleneagles

Vero Atleta (2c Gleneagles - Love Match, by Danehill Dancer) finished strongly to capture Sunday’s Group 2 Gran Criterium at San Siro, and completed a hat-trick in the process.

A close second at Group 3 level earlier in the season, Grizzetti Galoppo’s representative won a conditions race in good style in September and followed up with an authoritative victory at Stakes level earlier this month.

Partnered by Dario Vargiu once again on Sunday, he was hampered in the early stages, before being settled at the back of the field. Pushed along from three furlongs out, he produced a challenge between horses inside the final furlong and led from 75 yards out. Asserting close home, he led by a length on the line.

Owned by Scuderia Incolinx and Diego Romeo, Vero Atleta was bred by Corrin Stud. The progressive colt continues another fine season for Gleneagles, with Highland Chief (Gleneagles) having captured a Grade 1 earlier this year, while Royal Scotsman (Gleneagles) impressed in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes, before finishing second in the Group 1 Dewhurst Stakes.
