Harvest Moon Continues Top Week for Uncle Mo
Harvest Moon (3f Uncle Mo x Qaraaba, by Shamardal) started her connections’ week off right on Monday with a win at Del Mar against older fillies and mares.
Looking for her second consecutive victory, Harvest Moon broke smoothly in the mile affair on dirt before settling in the back of the field a few paths off the rail. Flavien Prat was happy to let the race favorite get comfortable before moving her up to challenge the leader as they exited the backstretch.
Harvest Moon spent the run around the turn drawing even with the leader before taking command in the late stages of the race. A little green in midstretch, the filly quickly put her mind back on the job and crossed the wire 4¼ lengths in front with her ears pricked.
Trained by Simon Callaghan for owner-breeder Alice Bamford and her co-owner Michael Tabor, it was the second impressive victory for the filly after she won her maiden by 1½ lengths as the favorite last out.
Harvest Moon is a half-sister to Grade II winner and Grade I-placed Californiagoldrush and out of Grade III winner Qaraaba, who is the dam of three winners from three to race. Qaraaba also has an unraced 2-year-old Munnings colt named Mr. Impossible and an Air Force Blue yearling colt in the wings.
Harvest Moon was the eighth winner in four days for Uncle Mo, whose weekend was led by stakes winning Galilean and Listed placed Bye Bye Melvin.
