Highland Reel Filly Strikes Late On Debut
The future looks bright for Reel Rosie (2f Highland Reel - Lady Canford, by Canford Cliffs) after she stayed on well to make a winning debut at Redcar on Saturday.
The Edward Bethell-trained bay was one of just two newcomers in a field of 14 to line up for the seven furlong contest and raced towards the back of the field under Rowan Scott. Showing signs of inexperience, she made good headway approaching the final furlong and was ridden to lead close home. The winning margin was a neck, and the manner in which it was achieved would suggest that Reel Rosie will improve over further distances.
Bred by Oldcourt Stud, she hails from the first crop of globetrotting superstar Highland Reel. The well-bred son of Galileo himself landed a Group 2 as a juvenile, and went on to capture seven Group/Grade 1 races across three continents.
