That’ll Be The Day (5g Westerner - Inchiquin Princess, by Bob Back) declared himself an exciting prospect when running out a clear winner of Friday’s maiden hurdle at Gowran Park.
Trained by Jimmy Mangan for Mrs John Magnier, the bay faced 15 rivals on his rules debut in the two mile contest on heavy ground. Chasing the leaders under Phillip Enright, he produced a challenge after the third last and switched left to dispute approaching the next. Soon clear, he extended his advantage to nine lengths on the line with minimum fuss.
That’ll Be The Day will be seen to best effect of further distances, according to his trainer. “We think a lot of him and he always works well at home,” Mangan revealed. “We think he's going to make a very good long-distance horse.”
