Impressive Maiden Winner By Churchill
Taraj (2c Churchill - Catchment, by Oasis Dream) looks set for a step up in class after running out a stylish winner of Friday’s mile maiden at Dundalk.
The Dermot Weld-trained colt finished a close fourth and second in two Curragh maidens before being sent off favourite to win his third start under Chris Hayes. Racing in midfield in the early stages, he began to improve from three furlongs out and improved to lead approaching the final furlong. Running on well, he led by two and a half lengths on the line as the well-back The Old Nine (No Nay Never) finished second.
“He's a lovely horse and we always thought a lot of him,” the winning rider said. “I've no doubt he is a Stakes horse. The boss could freshen him up and he could be one for a Madrid Handicap or a Tetrarch.”
The progressive son of Churchill is owned by Jastar Capital Limited and was bred by Springbank Way Stud.
