Jaxon Traveler Adds Another Stakes Victory to Record
Jaxon Traveler (5h Munnings x Listen Boy, by After Market) returned to his stakes winning ways on Tuesday with a 5 ½ length romp in the Zia Park Sprint.
The West Point Thoroughbreds runner was happy to keep pressure on the leading Tactical Attack early on in the six furlong race with that one trying to keep a length between them. Proving to be no match for Jaxon Traveler, the runner gave in as the field approached the quarter pole and Jaxon Traveler took over from there.
Building his margin with every stride, Jaxon Traveler’s jockey Joel Rosario kept him on task in the stretch as he put 5 ½ lengths between himself and the runner up and 8 ½ lengths between himself and the rest of the field.
It was the seventh victory and 19th top three finish in 25 starts for the earner of $675,999. Winning his first stakes as a juvenile, he’s won at least one blacktype event every year with the headliner being the Grade III Maryland Sprint Stakes last year.
In all, the Steve Asmussen trainee has finished in the top three in 15 of 20 stakes races.
Bred by Dr. and Mrs. A. Leonard Pineau, Jaxon Traveler is one of five winners from six named foals out of the stakes placed After Market mare Listen Boy.
That mare is a half-sister to stakes winner Monzon and the stakes placed Aleutian Harbour.
Munnings’ 14 2023 stakes winners ties him for fourth among all North American sires while his 34 stakes performers puts him second to only Into Mischief in that category. One of the hottest sires in the country, he stands for $75,000 in 2024.
